A sunflower variety Varyag was developed in 2006-2013 by a method of multiple pollination of variety population Skorospely-87, with further individual selection of very early maturing plants and directed cross-pollination of the best families at free flowering on the isolated plots. The new variety belongs to the early maturing group. In conditions of southern forest-steppe of the Western Siberia, the variety Varyag showed high productivity exceeding the standard variety Irtysh on seed yield by 0.63 t per ha, on oil yield - by 291 kg per ha. The variety is tolerant to downy mildew and sunflower moth, well adapted to the natural conditions of the Western Siberia, suitable for mechanized cultivation. The variety Varyag is included into the State Register of breeding achievements approved for production in the Western Siberian region in 2016.
