The educational situation of the Middle Volga nationalities in 1920's - 1930's (demographic aspect)

The article treats the change in the educational level of the Middle Volga nationalities in the 1920s 1930s. A great number of likbez (eradication of illiteracy) schools allowed the population literacy to become 1.5 2 times as high over a short period. However, though the literacy level of all ethnic groups was high enough by the late 1930s (75 95%), few percent of the children continued their education in senior secondary school, the percentage of those attending junior secondary school also being low. Most of the children received but four form primary education.
