On the basis of archival sources, published literature, periodicals the development of certain sectors of agriculture of Dagestan on the eve of perestroika are considered in the article. The agrarian policy of the state which was based on the fact that a radical solution of the problems of development of modern agriculture is possible only on a such material and technical base which will provide a transition of this industry on an industrial basis, reduce the dependence on the natural forces of nature, carry out high rates of production growth, mainly, by increasing labor productivity. The basis for increasing the production of fruits and vegetables in the republic was to be transition to gardening and vegetable growing in the intensive path of development, applying of the achievements of agricultural science. Also the organization and economy of veterinary measures in Gunibsky, Khasavyurt and other areas were studied. Subjects of research were designed to suit the requirements that resulted from the difficult conditions of doing distant-pasture - one of the main industries of the republic. It should be noted that the terms of distant-pasture livestock farming creates considerable difficulties in carrying out preventive and anti-epizootic measures. This was complicated by the fact that on the territory of Dagestan the seasonal, mainly winter, pastures were diverted to collective and state farms of the Georgian SSR, as equally we used the lands of neighboring republics. This situation caused the need to coordinate and carry out joint activities with the veterinary services of neighboring regions and republics.
