Improvement of experimental technique for studying bismuth solubility in nickel

In order to study the possibility of bismuth solid solution formation in nickel and nickel alloys, a technique of saturation of solid metal with bismuth through the gas phase was developed and tested. The study found no appreciable dissolution of bismuth in nickel. If total bismuth content in nickel was less than 1 wt. %, NiBi precipitates formed along the alloy grain boundaries.
