Improvement of the sunflower cultivation technology in Western Siberia

The influence of weather conditions, plant density and width of inter-row space on phenological, biometric and productive qualities of sunflower varieties Irtysh and Baloven of the breeding of Siberian experimental station of VNIIMK was investigated. The increase of density of plants standing up to 70 thousand plants per ha leads to increase of yield, plants’ height and oil seeds but it reduces both the vegetation period and one-thousand-kernel weight. Row width has less influence on productivity than the density of plants standing and variety. The differentiated approach is proposed to the designing of the density of crops with consideration of the types of the varieties, material-and-technical equipment of farmers with technique and chemical means of plant protection from weeds.
