The article considers the role of chancery as a key legal administrative institution of the medieval English monarchy. The authors study the nature of the equity in many respects determined by two close, but not identical concepts - conscientia (conscience) and aequitas (equity) originated in Classical legal thought and developed through the Middle Ages. The evolution of these concepts in the context of development of the English 'rule of equity' is described.
