Culture and creative intelligentsia lack academic investigation, especially on regional level. The author presents the analytical review of the Soviet historiography of culture and intelligentsia of Southern Siberia in 1965-1991. The contribution of Soviet researchers in the studies of culture and intelligentsia is revealed. The author states that the issues of the Party leadership in cultural processes and of the Soviet intellectuals'' role in the building of socialism were dominant in the historiography of 1965 - the first half of the 1980s. The historians preferred to study the problems of public education, higher education and educational work. The author determines the specifics of the Soviet historiography and pays attention to the fact that the analyzed works laid the foundation for those research areas that have appeared to be the most promising and relevant recently. The published works on relevant questions of the history of the Southern Siberian national cultures (such as of Khakassia and Tuva) are analyzed. The formation and development of the creative intelligentsia of the the Sayan-Altai indigenous peoples were one of the main issues in the Soviet historiography. Some leading researchers of the issues are mentioned in the essay.
