Soviet national register in 1918-1990: historiographic review

The article discusses main tendencies of researches of state national register in the USSR in the period from the time of the first All-Russian population census in 1918 until the publication of the last Soviet census results in1990. The author analyzes methods and approaches of the problem under consideration.
