The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of celebrating the anniversaries of the October revolution in the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR in the 1920s-1930s. The celebration of the revolutionary holiday is understood by the author as an important element of the legitimacy of the new government, as a method of uniting the civil collective, as a way of public demonstration of the economic and political advantages of the Soviet state. With the establishment of Soviet power public festival has lost the religious dimension and became democratic in color, has been a process of “secularization” of the holiday, versus civil and religious celebrations. Celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of the October events have become part of the public life of the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR since its inception. In the Republican press, they were originally interpreted as a “revolution”. In the 1920s, large-scale celebrations were held in various forms and showed the population of the city and the Republic the achievements of Soviet power, convinced the population of loyalty to the chosen path. It is necessary to emphasize the mutual enthusiasm of citizens who actively participated in the festivities. The next decade marked the gradual ideologization and personalization of celebrations. In the nature of the anniversary celebrations and their subsequent description, there is a clear tendency to praise Stalin. The solemn meetings, rallies and processions held in the city were accompanied by a demonstration of portraits of the leaders, and their participants linked the achievements of regional development with the wisdom of the country’s top leadership. All this testified to a radical change in the political and ideological background.
