Modern Russian-Mongolian relations are based on many years’ experience of bilateral cooperation in the Soviet era. The accumulated experience has an unconditional impact on the current state of relations between countries. In this regard, the study the historical experience of Soviet-Mongolian political, economic and military cooperation in the first half of the 20th century, from the beginning of the establishment of Soviet-Mongolian relations is of undoubted scientific and practical interest. The article focuses on the political, cultural and trade relations between the Soviet Union and Mongolia in 1920-1939 and military conflict on Khalkhin Gol river as shown in the documents of the State Archive of the Republic of Buryatia.
