In the article the state and confessional policy concerning the Russian Orthodox Church, the status of orthodox communities in the Soviet society (structure of believers and the clergy, the main activities of the Russian Orthodox Church, etc.) at regional level in the Penza region in the second half of 1960 - the first half of the 1980s is analysed.
