The relevance of the article is in the fact that within the framework of the transformations of Russian statehood, the Soviet period was an important stage of the political past. With all the structural, functional, political-cultural and other changes in the political system of Russia (including electoral one), which in the early 1990s began the process of its regime restructuring, it was impossible to exclude the situation of continuity completely. It is conditioned by both elements of traditions and norms preserved in the political culture, and the effectiveness of certain management practices that operate within certain national communities, which presupposes their adaptation and use in modern political realities. Accordingly, the purpose of the work is to determine the Soviet influence on the modern practice of electoral processes. The results of its implementation include solving such problems as designating the situation of continuity of the Soviet past in the modern electoral system of the Russian Federation and demonstrating the practices used by modern Russian political parties that have a historical determinacy of the Soviet period. The methodological basis of the work was formed by historical-cultural and structural-functional approaches.
