Contemporary sociological urban studies: main research trends

The author offers an overview of the main discussions on research trends of urban sociology. The main attention is paid to Western sociology. Its representatives are most actively involved in these discussions. The author points out that traditionally urban researches in sociology are associated with the study of communities, which is still considered as an important component of modern urban studies. Moreover, digital technologies create additional opportunities for interaction, thereby creating new forms of communities. The other important topic for modern urban sociology is the process of globalization, which is transforming the social space of cities. Thus, it is indicated that it is necessary to consider glocalization, both global and local processes of the modern urban space.
