The current dimension of Italy's migration policy

The current migration situation in Italy after the migration crisis in Europe has a great impact on the country's politics and social sphere. Against the background of mass migration and discontent among Italians, right-wing parties that came to power in 2018 continue to remain popular among voters. Their policy in the field of migration regulation has some benefits - since 2018, the influx of migrants has decreased significantly but it is causing frustration of the EU. The purpose of this article is to analyze the migration policy in the sphere of migration held by the coalition of right-wing parties League and Five Stars Movement in Italy in 2018-2019. The research method consists in analyzing the decisions, laws, and measures taken by G. Conte’s first government, in an attempt to limit the mass influx of migrants. The article examines the impact of Italian migration policy on reducing migration from disadvantaged countries in Africa, as well as its role in increasing the popularity of the League and its leader Matteo Salvini. The research results contribute to the study of the Italian migration policy during this period and the impact of the migration crisis in the European Union on it. The author tries to analyze the further development of events in the political arena of Italy and answer to which direction the policy in the field of migration regulation will go.
