Рассматриваются современное состояние, основные конструктивные особенности и некоторые приложения времяпролетной масс-спектрометрии. Даются основные этапы совершенствования аналитических характеристик основных анализаторов: линейного и отражающего анализаторов с ортогональным вводом ионного пучка. Отмечаются основные преимущества этих анализаторов по сравнению с другими аналитическими приборами и, в частности, возможность сочетания с источниками ионов непрерывного действия.
