The article examines the issue of modern international conflicts from the standpoint of the military-geopolitical approach through the prism of the participation of the Russian Armed Forces. The author draws attention to the fact that almost all armed conflicts of the 21st century unfolded with the direct or indirect participation of the United States and other countries of the “collective West”. For a long time, Russia avoided military involvement in such conflicts, hoping to resolve them by peaceful diplomatic means through its mediation (Iraq, Libya). When the ineffectiveness of such an approach became apparent, Russia was forced to switch to a strategy of direct use of its armed forces to protect the civilian population and the legitimately elected authorities of foreign states from external aggression (Syria, Ukraine). The author highlights the most typical problems that Russian troops face when carrying out peacekeeping missions: the lack of fortified remote military bases with developed infrastructure, difficulties in supplying the army when carrying out tasks in territories remote from Russia's borders, and the lack of an effective command and control system. It is concluded that these factors need to be taken into account in the future.
