Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a pathological condition complicating many diseases. PAH is characterized by a progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) leading to the development of right ventricular failure and premature death of patients. The article describes the modern clinical classification of pulmonary hypertension and diagnostic algorithms. Also considered are basic approaches to standard therapy, results and experience in using modern drugs: endothelin receptor antagonists, prostanoids, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, as well as surgical methods of treatment.
