Modern approaches to the concept of patriotism in scientific discourse

The article analyzes modern research approaches to understanding the concept of patriotism. The concept of patriotism organically contains a dialectics of political and non-political components. The author shows that the political component is associated with the design of the future socio-political and economic structure of the country. The value position of researchers influences the understanding and representation of the balance of the political and non-political components. The paper makes a distinction between state patriotism and grassroots one based on the study of promoted values and approved practices. State patriotism does not explicitly imply an apology for the political regime. The implementation of specific programs of state patriotism contributes to the legitimization of the political regime. The author proposes to analyze grassroots patriotism as a request of the median citizen to reduce social inequality and social distances. The inclusion of the values of equality and justice of grassroots patriotism in the agenda of state patriotism can help to strengthen the mobilization resource of the state.
