The article provides an overview of the literature on the methods of treatment of one of the most common complications of chemotherapy for malignant neoplasms – oral mucositis. The tactics of managing patients with oral mucositis is determined by the degree of its severity. With III and IV degrees of oral mucositis, it is required to suspend antitumor treatment and stop the clinical symptoms of mucositis, while a break in treatment, of course, can negatively affect the prognosis of the underlying disease. Analysis of the literature data shows that today there are a large number of different approaches to the treatment of oral mucositis, but none of them is 100% effective. The main treatment directions for chemotherapeutic oral mucositis include: compliance by patients with personal oral hygiene, regular rinsing of the oral cavity to remove plaque and maintain mucosal moisture, adherence to a sparing diet, elimination of pain, the use of oral antiseptics and anti-inflammatory drugs, prevention of oral bleeding, correction of xerostomia, cleansing of ulcerative-necrotic overlays of the oral mucosa, antifungal drugs in the case of the development of candidomycosis, the use of probiotics to eliminate oral dysbiosis, as well as non-pharmacological methods – cryotherapy, low-intensity laser therapy. To date, the approach to the treatment of oral mucositis is not systematic. Treatment of oral mucositis requires an individual approach, which is often difficult to implement in real clinical practice. The search for new, effective methods of treating oral mucositis is still an urgent clinical and scientific direction.
