The article integrates the basic ideas which present a complete overview of the problems of development of social orphans public boarding schools. At present the basic «interpretational schema» within the framework of which features of development of children without family are analyzed is the consequences of mental deprivation in the closed educational institution. The author suggests to take into account the growth of social orphans in alcoholic families, the loss of parents trauma, and also consequences of house-hold in-family violence.
