Modern trends in the development of world artistic gymnastics

Aim. This paper aims to identify modern trends in world artistic gymnastics through an analysis of the Olympic Games. Materials and methods. An analysis of the official FIG reports from the XXXII and XXXIII Olympic Games was conducted, examining the success of national federations, the age of participants, the age of medallists, and their performance scores. A comparison of the results from these two Olympic Games was performed, taking into account the different evaluation components (difficulty and execution). Furthermore, a survey of the members of the men’s and women’s technical committees was conducted to assess the process of increasing rule objectivity and implementing digitalization. Results. The main directions and trends in the development of world artistic gymnastics have been identified: expansion in the number of countries capable of winning medals, increased demands for execution quality and routine difficulty, a rise in the age of medal-winning gymnasts, and a move towards greater objectivity in competition rules. Conclusion. The research results formed the basis for revising the gymnasts’ training program for the new 2025–2028 Olympic cycle.
