The possibilities of special knowledge currently have a serious potential in the overall solution of issues related to the prevention, disclosure and investigation of criminal cases. In this regard, their development and improvement is one of the priority tasks of law enforcement agencies. Almost any criminal case is not complete without the use of special knowledge. Traditionally, the most popular and significant use of special knowledge is the appointment and production of forensic examinations. It is within the framework of the examination that it is most likely to obtain the evidence necessary for the criminal case and confirm or refute the data already available in the case about the event of the crime, or the person who committed it. One of the unique researches for today is genotyposcopic examinations. Their production contributes to the rapid and high-quality investigation and disclosure of crimes, which, in turn, makes it possible to more effectively counteract crime. The study of biological materials allows you to identify the person who committed the crime, and under certain circumstances, the information on the objects (under conditions of proper storage) can be stored for decades. An important factor is that a person can be identified by a small amount of biological material (blood, semen, saliva, hair) left on the clothes of the victim or suspect, on the weapon of crime, or other items seized during the inspection or search. Thus, it is obvious that the possibilities of these studies are colossal, but they are only partially used in practice, which is associated with a number of problematic aspects: material and legal nature. In this study, we made an attempt to study the current state of affairs in the context of the appointment and production of genotyposcopic studies. Their capabilities are indicated, as well as aspects that negatively affect their further development and improvement.
