The article discusses the comparative features of the legal status of "expert" and "specialist" in civil and arbitration proceedings. The Institute of forensic science in Russia is designed to help the court to understand those branches of science and technology that require special knowledge regarding the case under consideration and within the scope of the subject of proof. Science and technology follow technological progress, are constantly evolving and the court needs to involve experts and experts in various fields.
