Emergency rescue service of the naval Pacific fleet in the context of changes in the Pacific strategic positions of the USSR in 1945

The research is based on the records of the Branch of the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation (the Archive of the Navy in Gatchina) and its archives department (the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok) that are introduced. The author considers the specific activities of the Emergency Rescue Service of the Naval Pacific Fleet in the context of the changing strategic positions of the USSR in the Pacific Ocean in 1945. The emphasis is placed on the actions of the emergency crew in a military environment, i.e. hostilities with Japan. The study reveals the aspects of ship salvaging and underwater engineering works determined by the post-war reconstruction. The author concluded that the Emergency Rescue Service of the Naval Pacific Fleet made significant contributions to both the successful performance of military tasks and the subsequent post-war restoration of the Pacific infrastructure.
