The article presents an analysis of scientific literature, scientific research and development describing the competences of a physical education teacher aimed at socialization of children with disabilities. The author presents the analysis of state educational standard of higher professional education, the bachelor, in the field of Adapted Physical Education and occupational standards for teachers (educators, teachers) in the field of preschool, basic, compulsory and secondary general education. The paper reveals the key problems in the formation of professional competences which are necessary for the successful work of a teacher working with schoolchildren with disabilities. It shows the "problem field" of physical education and sports for special needs children in the assessments of physical education teachers. The author reveals and describes the specificity and variants of competencies formation of physical education teachers in the field of socialization of schoolchildren with disabilities by means of adaptive and sporting activities.
