The peculiarity of terms’ motivation

The article presented examines retrospectively different approaches to the concept of motivation as one of the significant properties of a term. Such concept of motivology science as a motivator, proposed to study semantics of general purpose lexemes, is investigated in terms of its application in terminology. Linguistic and extralinguistic factors related to the aspect of motivation are identified, and their influence on the term’s motivation is considered.
