The article presents materials on studying the state of the Volga River within the boundaries of the Volgograd region by analyzing monitoring studies of the water area at the regional level. To studythe specifics of the organization of state control, it is necessaryto have an idea of the extent of the impact of various factors at the regional level. Taking into account the data obtained is the basis for conducting a comparative analysis of the degree of contamination based on data obtained during laboratory studies. Sampling points along the length of the Volga River on the territory of Volgograd are highlighted. The priority criterion when choosing the coordinates of sampling points for determining the ecological state of the Volga River in the territory of the administrative center of the Volgograd region is the presence of industrial facilities. The control carried out within the framework of the state monitoring of the ecological state of the Volga River water area within the borders of the Volgograd region allows usto draw a conclusion about the degree of pollution, as well as to identify problems of accounting and control over the state of water bodies by the state. The data obtained during the study, control and supervision of the state of the river system of the The Volga River in the Volgograd Region serves as an information base for the development of environmental protection programs and justification of optimal approaches to regional environmental management.
