Propaganda poster of the Great Patriotic War as a means of Soviet identity formation

This research is an attempt to retrace the mechanism of construction and functioning of the Soviet identity in the visual propaganda of the USSR in the Soviet-German war. The research is based on the application of the content-analysis of such mass visual sources as propaganda posters. The formed data base enabled us to study the process of verbal and visual code functioning of the Soviet identity in the space of the poster and to raise the issue about the role of the visual propaganda in legitimation of the Soviet regime.
