The article analyzes specificity of a textbook as the didactic means through which the mechanisms of sense formation of pupils in educational process are "switched on". This specificity is caused, on the one hand, by the specific features of text organization of the content, and, on the other hand, by originality of the ways of acquisition of foreign meanings by a pupil. The ways of understanding the meaning of the text are related to the structures of consciousness of a pupil and are directly realized through subconscious and overconscious levels of mentality.
