The play "The black bridle of the white mare" staged by the Chamber Jewish Musical Theater (Birobidzhan)

At the end of the 1970s, the only Chamber Jewish Musical Theater in the USSR began operating in Birobidzhan, on the stage of which a unique performance (opera mystery) «The Black Bridle of the White Mare» based on the play by director and composer Yu. Sherling was staged. The activity of this creative team, the difficult path of creating a premiere performance is being highlighted for the first time. The only work on this topic can be considered the memoirs of director Yu. Sherling. However, the innovative techniques of the director used in the production of the play, philosophical in its meaning, force us to turn to the study of the process of creating the play, to the analysis of the presentation of the positive and negative moments of the premiere, which were reported in their articles by the journalists of the newspaper Birobidzhan Zvezda. It was the use of a complex method that combined the source analysis of articles from periodicals, archival documents and memoirs that allowed us to state that the play «The Black Bridle of the White Mare» played an important role.
