The article presents a critical view of sport as a phenomenon of the New time. Such a representation is important due to the increasing attempts to give the sports activities of a pedagogical nature, to solve through sport objectives of upbringing and education of the younger generation. One of the arguments for justification of these attempts, the innovation of the sport. In this regard, an attempt has been made to examine sport practices in the context of innovations. First, it was shown that progress and innovations are the leading motives of human evolution only the beginning of a New time. This is also the time of the birth of sport as a contemporary social phenomenon. Secondly, the pursuit of innovation has gradually been associated with the implementation of conflicting impulse - standardization, which first identified the manufacturing sector and later spread to other spheres of human life, particularly in education and sports. Third, the implementation of innovations in sport has gone the way, which creates serious problems. On the one hand, it is a competition of technical equipment and inventory, when a person increasingly becomes only an appendage (“technical innovations”). On the other hand, achieving good results in many sports is due to the doping (“chemical innovation”). The analysis naturally leads to the question about future innovations in sports practice, when in the XIX century in relation to the body and corporeality of the man was set restricting predicate “physical” (“physical culture” “physical education”, etc.), and when achievement of the maximum possible result is the only goal.
