A technique of lower limb segment lengthening for height increase in patients with achondroplasia

The authors have proposed a technique for limb bone lengthening, which prevents development of postoperative complications and ensures the reduction of total duration of treatment by creation of the optimal conditions for tissue regeneration. The task indicated is solved as follows: while using the technique of limb bone lengthening which includes making at least double osteotomy of the bone being lengthened, distraction of bone fragments should be made cyclically with steady changing rate at each level of lengthening and with simultaneous maintenance of the distraction mean rate for the whole segment within 1,25 mm per day.
