Methods of decorating garments and headwear of the medieval mordvins from the Vad region in the 8th - 9th centuries

For a long time many researchers have tried to recreate the appearance of themedieval Mordvins. Known reconstructions include garments of the Tsna Mordvins and theTesha Mordvins. Artefacts from the collections of the Vad sites have been selected and analyzed and an attempt of reconstruction has been made. s a result, the typology of the methodsused to decorate the garments of the ancient Mordvins was worked out. In consisted in sewingseed beads and trapezoid pendants on to the garments. The headwear and its variants typicalfor the Vad Mordvins have been reconstructed and compared with those of other populationgroups. Distinctive traits and common features of decoration methods have been singled out.
