Methods of nominating the characters in the early stories of Anton Chekhov

The article considers methods of primary and secondary nomination of characters in the early stories of Anton Chekhov. As a means of primary nomination the writer uses nouns (proper and common nouns), substantivized words, phrases (narrative structures) that are used literally, but as a means of secondary nomination there are used the words with characterizing function such as anthroponyms (charactonyms and appellatives, employed figuratively.
