Means of counteracting investigation of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking

Inroduction. Committed firearms crimes are the most violent and cynic types of crimes. Therefore, studying the relevant means of counteracting investigation of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking is of special importance, and it is the aim of our research. Materials and methods. The author employed the materials of the dissertations, publications in periodicals, domestic and foreign criminal legislation which comprises norms of law enforcement, as well as provisions of the science of criminal law. The methodological basis of the research is the universal dialectical method of cognition, general, special and private law methods of study: analysis, synthesis, system approach, concrete sociological, statistical, formal legal and comparative legal methods. Results and Discussion. The methods of counteracting investigation of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking imply the actions aiming to conceal or destroy the traces of the crime, falsify or conceal the evidence, press the participants of the process in order to conceal the information about the crime committed. The author suggests specifying the following groups of means of counteracting investigation of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking: aiming to conceal the traces and other physical evidence of committing a crime; aiming to press the participants of the criminal proceedings. Conclusions. In order to overcome counteracting investigation by those who committed the crimes related to illegal arms trafficking, it is essential for the investigator to study the psychological climate inside the criminal group if the crimes were committed by the group, examine its inner structure and establish the role of each participant. Using the knowledge obtained the investigator can identify the weak points of the criminal group, which makes it possible to isolate its individual members. Modern operative and investigative maintenance applied for counteracting investigation of crimes related to illegal arms trafficking is the condition of effective solution of crimes of the mentioned category.
