Comparative characteristics of laboratory methods for the diagnosis of chlamydia

This article examines the literature data on the use of various laboratory diagnostic methods to detect chlamydia, an infection of the genitourinary system, which is the most common sexually transmitted disease. The ways of transmission of chlamydia and possible complications of chlamydia are described. The characteristics of methods for diagnosing infections (bacteriological and bacterioscopic methods, PCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) are given, such aspects of diagnosing chlamydia as painfulness of material sampling, reliability of results are compared. The effectiveness of the methods, their sensitivity and specificity, as well as their prevalence are analyzed on the example of the diagnosis of urogenital chlamydia.
