Comparative characteristics of mitilids from various substrates (an example of Sevastopol bays, Black Sea, Russia)

We used quantitative characteristics of the shellfish-filter feeders Mytilus galloprovinciallis and Mytilaster lineatus from different substrates to assess their contribution to the self-purification processes (oil pollution) in harbors. We investigated mytilids from anthropogenic substrates as well as from natural sediments of Sevastopol bays; IFA of these species showed their significant role in the transformation of the matter and energy in the coastal area.
