Microcirculatory alterations are often associated with spontaneous fluctuations in tissue blood flow. This is often used to objectively describe the functional capacity of tissue. Rhythmic fluctuations in blood flow and their changes provide knowledge of the mechanisms underlying microcirculation. In this study, we compared different aspects of biorhythmo-logic laser Doppler flowmetry images of patients receiving local medical treatment for oral lichen planus. We devided all the patients into 2 groups. The first group received conventional therapy, while the second group received a complex therapy with L-arginine-containing TIZOL. Patients presenting with no signs of oral lichen planus constituted the control group. We found that L-arginine-containing TIZOL exerts autocrine and paracrine action and can potentially affect biochemical and physiological processes both in the cell in which L-arginine is synthesized and in the neighboring cells, being a universal regulator of physiological functions and a powerful vasodilator.
