Comparative analysis of the South American region studies in Russia and China

This article examines the stages of the formation and development of Latin American studies as a science in Russia and China. The aim of this work is a comparative analysis of international approaches to studying South America as a region. It describes the reasons for the interest of Russian and Chinese scientists in the study of this region, as well as the establishment and development of institutions such as the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Latin American Studies in China. Historical-comparative, descriptive methods, and the method of historical periodization were employed. A chronology of the stages of development of Latin American studies as a discipline in Russia and China is compiled, and their comparison is carried out to identify common trends. Collection and analysis of scientific works on the studied issues were conducted. It is emphasized that in China and Russia, Latin American studies represent a broad scientific field encompassing various aspects of the South American region: language, geography, nature, economy, politics, sociology, etc. In the era of globalization and given the inclusion of Russia, China, and Brazil in BRICS, the study of South America remains relevant.
