The comparative analysis of psychopathological mechanisms of homicides and suicides in patients with schizophrenia

The work is performed on the basis of archival data of the Republic Specialized Psychiatric Hospital under supervision of Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. There were analyzed 25 clinical data of the patients with schizophrenia who passed compulsory medical treatment in this Hospital in connection with the committed homicides and subsequently committed suicide. Studying of the homicides motive and subsequent suicides among the patients was conducted by structural and dynamic analysis of psychopathological mechanisms of its aggressive delict in comparison with psychopathological mechanisms of motives formation of the suicidal behavior. Structural and dynamic analysis of the aggressive motives and auto-aggressive actions of the patients with schizophrenia showed their identity for 84%. Among psychopathological mechanisms of homicides and suicides of the selected group of patients there were predominated mechanisms of delirious protection from external threat. In cases of aggression it was expressed as attack on pursuers (64%) and suicide (52%), that on patients delusional belief was the only way to avoid the pursuit and outside effect. The mechanism of delusional protection, present in the motives of the murder, was repeated in the motifs of suicide in the majority of patients with schizophrenia.
