The article is devoted to the study of domestic and foreign approaches to disclosing the essence and key aspects of the DMO model - a destination management organization. The authors consider the current socio-economic prerequisites and reasons for strengthening the role of DMO in improving the efficiency of the management system of tourist territories. The conducted comparative analysis of the theses presented in the scientific literature, devoted to the description of DMO and its functions, made it possible to formulate the key characteristics of this concept, which reflect the necessary directions and tools for the formation of functional relationships between stakeholders in a tourist destination in order to increase its competitiveness. Based on the results obtained, the advantages of coordinated destination management were formulated and recommendations were given for adapting the best practices of organizing DMO work to the conditions of the Russian tourist market.
