Means of creation of spatial and temporal background in the novel “Reading in the dark” by Seamus Deane

The article deals with the means of the creation of the artistic time and space in the novel “Reading in the dark” by Seamus Deane. The central theme of the novel is the Northern Irish conflict providing its national and cultural specificity. The analysis showed the connection of the category of time and the category of space with the expression of the basic themes and ideas of the novel. There was revealed that the basic means of the representation of the spatial and temporal background are allusions, toponyms, temporal determinants, locative vocabulary and tense-aspect forms of verbs.
