The USA and Mexico on their way to Bucareli conferences: from tension to alleviation (1917-1923)

In the 1920s the relations between the USA and Mexico could be characterized by worsening the disagreements over the US ownership of oil resources. Peaceful settlement of the conflict was found at the Bucareli conferences in 1923 which was preceded by lengthy diplomatic preparation. Under the negotiated agreements the US agreed to recognize officially the government of Obregon in exchange for concessions to preserve the property rights of Americans in Mexico.
