The establishment and development of the bank system of the Russian empire in the XVIIIth - beginning of the XXth centuries: problem contemporary historiography

The article analyzes modern historiography (from 1991 to the present) devoted to the history of the formation and development of financial and credit institutions of the Russian Empire from the XVIIIth to the beginning of the XXth centuries. Based on the study of works of national and foreign authors, the characteristic features of the modern period of the problem study have been revealed as well as the issues under discussion and those that are little studied. It has been identified that at present, the studies of the activities of the regional and foreign bank branches are of value in perspective as those aspects were paid insufficient attention at the pre-revolutionary and Soviet times.
