The article is devoted to the review of the formation and development of the institution of admissibility of evidence in domestic criminal proceedings. The authors consider the development of the institution of admissibility of evidence in the framework of domestic criminal proceedings over a significant historical period. The study examined the characteristic features of the criminal process as a structurally isolated phenomenon in a rapidly centralizing state, which can only be discussed since the XV century. The authors emphasize the importance of the institution of admissibility of evidence as a condition for establishing the truth, and at the same time, based on historical data, the article states the normality of its variability due to changes in social conditions.
