The formation and development of criminal punishment in Russia until the early twentieth century

The article examines the history of criminal penalties in pre-Soviet Russia. Also, the functioning of this institution depended directly on the main stages of development of the Russian state, as well as socio-economic and other factors that caused the forms and types of responsibility for criminal offenses. The article also refers to the effectiveness of types of criminal penalties and the quality of legal regulation of their system as a whole.
