The article deals with the conceptualization of the phenomenon of loneliness in the history of philosophical thought. There is an indirect presence of the problem of loneliness at virtually all stages of the development of philosophy starting from the antiquity. Despite the absence of the systematic research of loneliness until the 19th century, the statements about the abovementioned phenomenon as a part of various worldview systems allow one to theoretically follow thought movement. The article analyzes different approaches to understanding the loneliness by philosophers from different eras. It is concluded that historical differences in interpreting the problem of loneliness are associated not only with varying explication but also with those features that are imposed on human existence by the epoch suggesting a certain vision of the outworld, a concept of the existential aspects of being and a human place in nature and society as well.
