The article deals with the scope of terms management and administration, the approaches to studying the concept management have been identified. The formation of management as a social institution, preconditions and stages of this process are described. The peculiarities of management institutionalization with description of its forms have been also revealed. The specific features of sport management and its functioning under the market conditions have been defined.
