Old believers: the study of the phenomenon by secular science and its role in the modern Russian society

The article discusses the old belief as a cultural and historical phenomenon. The main trends of the secular science that have studied the old believers in the frameworks of the humanities in the context of historical, social and political events are reviewed. The author considers the role of the old believers in the modern Russian society, in particular for the Russian Orthodox Church.
