Statistics on verb forms and selection of grammar structures for an ESP course
Бесплатный доступ
The features of functioning of finite and non-finite forms of the verb in the texts of academic and journalistic styles of speech are considered. It is noted that the sociocultural meaning of grammatical structures is often underestimated by students who study the language. On the basis of financial and economic articles, which are a text resource in an ESP course for students of economics, statistical research is carried out on the frequency of moods, tenses, voices, modal forms and verbals, such as the infinitive, the gerund and the participle. The reasons for language interference in learning are revealed through a comparative analysis of Russian and English economic discourse, as well as the frequency indicators of grammatical structures determined by the continuous sampling method from articles of the Economist journal and the International Monetary Fund. The national specifics of functioning of verb forms is also considered in the aspect of translation.
